If shiny skin is a problem you’re constantly combating, raise your hand.
So that’s like, all of us, right?
I’m pretty sure even those of us with the most normal skin struggle with a shiny t-zone every now and then. Some of us definitely deal with shine more than others (like, everyday if you’re me) and I’m always on the look out for new products to make it less of a struggle.
Benefit Cosmetics’ POREfessional balm has been a popular primer choice for combo/oily skin girls everywhere for a while now, and with two new offerings in the lineup of POREfessional products, there are more ways than ever to fight pores and shine.
First up is the Invisible-Finish Mattifying Gel, a lightweight gel that’s meant to be applied to a fresh, clean face to soak up excess surface oil and leave a matte finish to the skin. I’ve been wearing it daily for nearly two weeks now, layering the POREfessional balm on top before concealer/foundation and have fallen in love. They really mean it when they say it’s lightweight – it takes seconds to absorb into the skin and doesn’t leave a sticky finish behind (like some gel products) and gives an immediate matte finish, as promised. While I haven’t found that shine is eliminated entirely, I wouldn’t consider that a downside because honestly, I’ve yet to find anything that totally erases any traces of oil. It does an excellent job of significantly reducing it for my typically combination skin.
The other new product is the Super-Cleaning Pore Masks, which come in a package of eight. Think of these like your typical pore strip, but upgraded big-time. They come in individual packages with a button-like circle you press to release the actual mask that gets soaked up by the fabric strip (a very fun little feature, tbh) and you can apply anywhere you have enlarged pores like your nose, forehead or chin. Let a mask sit for about ten minutes, then flip it over to wipe off the excess gel and remove impurities. The formula itself is intense – it doesn’t sting or anything like that, but it’s got some oomph behind it you definitely feel and smell while you’re soaking it in. Kind of wakes you up if you’re moving a bit slow.
The real test of these products will be during the summer when my oily skin gets a bit more intense, and I’m very interested to know if anyone out there with very oily skin has tried either of these new products and how they fared. My skin isn’t too problematic so I find these products work very well for basic oil-control needs. The POREfessional Invisible-Finish Mattifying Gel is available now for $36 CAD, and the Pore Masks are $42 CAD for eight total. Grab them at Shoppers Drug Mart or Sephora now!
