Today is October 15. Today is also my birthday – wahoo!
I’ve always been a fan of birthdays – I love a good excuse to throw a party where you truly get to call the shots, and lame as it is, I love having that one day a year you can look back on the last 365 days and reflect upon where you’ve been and the wisdom you’ve gained.
While the last year for me has been filled with all kinds of experiences, this is a beauty and lifestyle blog. Therefore, I thought I’d share what I learned in those areas this past year and what I want to focus on in the coming year.
Since October 2013, I learned…
…the eyebrow shape that’s best for my face and most natural (the awkward growing them in stages happened all throughout this past year). Bold brows FTW, guys.
…to step away from the chain restaurants and get in to this city’s amazing offering of food. It pains me now to go places you can find outside the city when I know I could be spending the same money trying cuisine from a world-renowned chef, local folks who are doing really exciting and interesting things with food or experiencing Toronto landmark restaurants with history.
…to embrace my pale skin for what it is – I gave up entirely on any form of tanning (I stopped the tanning bed nonsense long ago, but I finally stopped trying to make spray tans and creams work) and chose to just accept the fact I am just a pale lady by nature!
…(after accepting my skin is better off protected than getting fried) to incorporate SPF in my skincare routine every. single. day. It’s the secret to great looking skin long-term, ladies!
…the importance of a diligent skincare routine, whether it’s preventative, to manage signs of aging, tackle specific problems, etc.
…to fully embrace the power of falsies. Gosh, I love ’em.
…to take risks with my hair! This haircut was a total shot in the dark, but the results were amazing and to this day I continuously get compliments from strangers…a serious confidence booster.
…to just bite the bullet and buy tickets to the concerts and events I’ll know I’ll regret missing (within reason). I’ve been to more concerts and shows this year than ever before and I can confidently say not once have I felt ripped off or like I’ve wasted my time.
By next October, I hope to have figured out…
…how best to use and experiment with eyeshadow. I tend to stay away from it because I lack application skills, but I always see such beautiful looks done up by the BlushPretty ladies or other beauty bloggers and have just got to get practicing.
…some new ways to style this haircut of mine. I’ve had the occasional stylist work some serious magic on it and I want to be better at trying new things at home!
…where to truly splurge and where to truly save on beauty products. It’s a constant struggle figuring it all out.
…more spots in my neighborhood for kick ass food and culture!
And now, I’m off to enjoy the day and celebrate my birth and build up my excitement for a weekend filled with karaoke, milk bar b’day truffles and loved ones!
