If there’s one thing I can always count on to amp up a look, it’s false lashes. If I can find even the slightest excuse to wear them, you can be sure I’m reaching for a pair. They’re an easy way to feel like a million bucks and you don’t need to shell out a lot of money to find a natural, easy-to-apply set.
My go-to brand? Ardell lashes. Found at most drugstores and beauty supplies, they come in a massive range of styles and will only run you a few dollars for a set, and you can get them in twin and multiple packs. I’m partial to full strip lashes since they’re easy to apply and provide a complete look in a matter of seconds, but individual lashes are also good to keep on hand when you want to go for something really natural.
I had the pleasure of trying out some of Ardell’s offerings for Spring which included a five-pack of their Demi Wispies (the most natural-looking of the bunch, $6.29 a pack), a twin pack of their #105 style (a more statement-making set, $9.99) and a pair of their #135 set (a totally glam pair, $5.97 at Wal-mart).
The #105s and #135s are perfect for nights out – I reach for them when I’m going dancing with my girlfriends or out for a fancy date night with Brad. I’m totally obsessed with the Demi Wispies though – these are perfect when you’re wanting to up the drama without it being too obvious you’re wearing falsies. I’ve worn them to a few parties, low-key date nights or casual Friday night drinks.
The best part about the Demi Wispies is you can get away with wearing them with very little makeup since they’re so natural-looking – check out the pic below wear all I’m wearing is mascara!
So how can you incorporate falsies into your looks this spring? I definitely recommend the Demi Wispies as a go-to set, and Jessica Jara, Ardell’s makeup artist and eyelash expert recommends layering lashes for a fuller, more sultry look reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. She recommends Black 105, 120 and 110 for layering to achieve this look.
If you’re not super savvy with applying falsies, remember the following:
- Only use Duo lash glue. Seriously – don’t even bother with any other adhesives. Duo is the industry standard and a must-have to keep them in place.
- A little goes a long way. Don’t feel the need to load up the glue on the strip – it’s powerful stuff and very little is necessary to make it stick long-term.
- Apply falsies last – even after mascara. These should be the last step in your eye routine. They don’t need to be curled and don’t require a coat of mascara, but do be sure to take those steps on your natural lashes ahead of application for the most seamless look.
- Use a dull pair of tweezers to apply and place the lashes. This was the best trick I’ve picked up when it comes to wearing lashes – your fingers will get in the way of applying lashes, and a dull pair of tweezers make the perfect tool for delicate application and getting as close to your lash line as possible. You won’t ruin your makeup and you can perfect the placement of the strip.
