The struggle with waterproof makeup is it’s typically damn hard to remove. You want the product to survive through a day at the beach or an afternoon of watching The Notebook, but you don’t want to go through an entire package of cotton pads and bottle of remover just to get the day’s mascara and liner off, right? That’s where Blinc comes in the picture.
Blinc’s created a line of products that have the same qualities of waterproof makeup, but solve the problem of difficult removal. The secret is in the formula – pressure alone and water alone can’t remove the product. However, the combination of the two (so using a damp washcloth or taking a shower) will make the product come off effortlessly, making it perfect for gym-goers, allergy-sufferers and anyone looking for the benefits of waterproof without the struggle.
I tried their Discovery Collection ($44.00 CAD) which contains deluxe samples of four products:
- Mascara Amplified in Black
- Eyebrow Mousse in Light Brunette
- Eye Shadow Primer in Light Tone
- Eyeliner Pencil in Black
Sadly, this is the only range of shades available in the box format, which is too bad for anyone who isn’t light-skinned and light-haired, but hopefully that will change eventually with more choice for women to try the products.
Everything worked for me colour-wise except for the brow mousse, since I’m a darker brunette, but the colour was alright enough to get away with for a few days of testing. Thoughts are below on each product.
As far as mascara’s go, this product is great for typical, everyday wear. The appeal is definitely in the fact that it’s a waterproof formula that’s easy to remove, and it’s a soft-bristle brush that offers decent volume. I found it gave my lashes a pretty safe, everyday look that would definitely work on mature women who need something less harsh than a dramatic, OTT product. It’s also a completely black shade which is great. Full size retails for $30.00 CAD.
I fill my brows with ABH’s Dipbrow, but I always use a gel on top to brush out my natural hairs and give a more natural finish, so I was really excited to give this a go. I would have preferred trying it out in Dark Brunette vs. Light, but I was still able to get a really solid sense of the product and how it wore. My overall verdict? Really fantastic. The formula is a lot thicker than a typical brow gel, and packs a lot of tint so if you have naturally full brows this is really all you would need to give them a boost. My biggest complaint would be the size of the brush, which has a tendency to pick up a lot of product and makes it a bit harder to control application. My way around that was just removing some of the excess and sticking to the tip of the brush while applying. This full size retails for $30.00 CAD.
Eye Shadow Primer
This product is the star of the kit, IMO! I’ve officially been wearing this daily since I tried it. I don’t actually wear eye shadow on a daily basis, but I always use a primer under my liquid liner because my lids tend to get oily and without primer, liner tends to transfer and fade throughout the day. The light shade I tried was definitely for fair skin, but the nice thing about primer is it can be covered easily with a nude-toned matte shadow to ensure consistency. I’ve been applying a small amount and blending it out all over my lid daily, letting it set then applying my liner. The wear has been stellar and it’s super lightweight, yet effective. Full size of this product is $30.00 CAD, and probably the best investment to make from the products in this kit.
Being someone who shys away from pencil liners for everyday wear, this was a bit outside my comfort zone. That said, I was really impressed by the opacity of the liner (bold, black lines) and how smoothly it glided on the skin. When I do wear pencil liner I like to smudge it out a bit, and that was no problem here. The range of shades in this particular product is also pretty great, from emerald green to purple to white, so there’s lots of room to play around. Full size liners retail for $23.00 CAD.
