This week I’m heading to NYC for a mini weekend getaway. I’ll be taking in some theatre, music, eating lots of food and of course, squeezing in a bit of shopping 🙂
Coming along with me is this palette from Cargo Cosmetics – The Essentials Eye Palette, part of their Spring/Summer 2015 collection. It’s fitting for trip since the collection itself is inspired by the Big Apple, from the architecture to its landscapes, movers and shakers and the undeniable vibe you feel walking through its streets.
I’m not one for a lot of eyeshadow, but when I opened this up it felt so me. 12 essential shades fill out the palette from neutrals to bold colours, giving endless options for looks that fit any outing. Everything you need for a sultry smokey eye, a “no-makeup” look or something in between is there. There’s also an eye pencil and dual ended brush, making application a cinch.
I also had the chance to try the new Magic Eye Brush along with the shadow. It’s a brush that gives a more professional look and makes it easy to build & blend, and both products together are a perfect marriage.
Each shade is fittingly named after aspects of the city’s architecture and design – personal favourites of mine include Uptown (a great all-over lid shade), Hub (a shimmery light brown, great for the crease) and Brownstone (perfect for that pop of drama without going overboard). Check out all of the swatches below:
Left to Right: Downtown, Industry, Metro, Brownstown, Hub, Facade
The shadows apply effortlessly and are easy to build, and don’t fall too much. I still had to sweep some product away after application, but I’d say that’s pretty standard. They blended SUPER well together, so creating a seamless look was easy. Below, I went for a pretty soft look that I’d wear out for drinks or date night.
The palette is a great value at $49, making each shade about $4 each for 0.85g of product. The Magic Eye Brush is $22, and both can be found at London Drugs, Murale, Lawtons Drugs and Rexall! Highly recommend.
