I was flipping through a magazine lately and came across an ad with a look I wanted to try and emulate – I can’t remember for the life of me what it was advertising, but the girls had this effortlessly edgy, glowing look that was a bit undone yet still really sexy. It inspired me to try creating something simple using few products that still screamed Saturday night. The result? The easy edgy eye.
The key to this look is a really great kajal pencil that’s easy to blend with some darker, matte eyeshadows. I used L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Le Kajal Eyeliner in black, along with the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Palette on the lids.
The beauty of this is you can be a little messy and it still looks great – that’s kind of the point. Simply use a medium-brown shade over the lid and blend up into the crease, then line with the kajal pencil. This can be a thicker line, as your next step is to take either your finger or a blending brush and smudge it up over the lid to blend with the brown. Line under the eyes and smudge, and voila! SO. EASY.
The glowing skin was created using MAC Cosmetics Strobe Cream (a.k.a. my latest obsession) mixed with Stila’s Stay All Day Foundation, and Smashbox’s Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion (sadly discontinued, but Benefit Cosmetics’ liquid highlighters are very similar – something golden like Sun Beam gives a natural look). I mixed the strobe cream with the foundation and applied with a beautyblender, then went over the spots on the face where light naturally hits – cupid’s bow, down the centre of the nose, a bit on the centre of the forehead and along the top of the cheekbones.
So, what do you think? Will you give it a shot next weekend?
