When the opportunity for me to try IrresistibleMe hair extensions landed in my inbox, I was a bit confused. One look at my blog or Instagram and the first thing you’ll notice is my short undercut – there ain’t a whole lot there to extend at first glance! But, I was intrigued and having had extensions in on the long side of my hair before, figured I could give them a shot and provide a review from a unique perspective.
I went through the process of choosing my colour and length, and when they arrived in my inbox I was pleasantly surprised. The colour was spot on and they were quality extensions. I ordered the Royal Remy extensions in Royal Medium Brown at 16″ (I wanted the length but I didn’t want to go nuts), which retail for $159 USD – the price changes depending on the length, starting at $129 for 14″ going all the way up to $319 for 24″.
I finally got around to putting them in and…oh my god.
I initially thought I’d only put them in on my long side, but I quickly realized unless I could get a custom set of clip-ins made, this wasn’t going to happen. They’re definitely made to go all around your head, not just along one side. So I improvised and parted my hair differently, and got to clipping them in. And then? Well, magic happened.
In the interest of keeping this super visual, behold – a step-by-step guide to my undercut-to-Kim-K transmigration!
Step One: Before photo, naturally. Note how little hair is currently on the shaved side right now (just got it cut last week!)
Step Two: Fake a new part so there’s some hair for the extensions to blend with and grab on to.
Step Three: Unpack the extensions and brush them so they’re nice and smooth. I highly recommend a Tangle Teezer for this – it’s gentle enough that it won’t pull and destroy the extensions, but does the trick to detangle and smooth for perfect blending. Note the many wefts of hair, ranging from one clip wide to four.
I started with the two-clip pieces at the nape of my neck, then worked my way up. For the final result, I ended up using all of the two-clip pieces and the four-clip piece, skipping the singles and the three-clip piece. This was because my natural hair is so fine and too many pieces became too visible through my natural hair.
OMG all of this hair.
Step Five: Style!! I took a curling iron to the hair all over and did what I could to add volume and texture so it looked like my real, natural hair. I was SO PLEASED with the result.
I would never, never, ever, ever, EVER be able to grow my hair naturally like this. As I mentioned, it’s super fine so when it hits about shoulder length, it tends to look really scraggly and gross. These extensions gave me my dream hair!!
I can’t wait to get a bit more practice putting these in and of course, taking them out for a night on the town. Grab your own pair at IrresistibleMe.com and be sure to take advantage of their Labour Day sale this weekend if you’re thinking you want to try them!
