I’m always interested in checking out drugstore products that could rival some of my favourites from department stores or designer brands. I think we can all agree that finding a quality product at a budget-friendly price is a thrill, so when L’Oreal launched a series of new Infallible products this year I was looking forward to picking some up and putting them to the test.
I grabbed the Infallible Pro Matte Foundation and was particularly interested in seeing how it compared to my foundation benchmark product, MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation. At about half the price with big promises to perform (24 hour wear, you say?), I was anxious to get it on.
First off, I really loved the packaging – a simple squeeze tube is the way to go with all foundations if you ask me. Glass bottles and pumps are fancy and all, but I always feel I’m missing out on product when I get to the end of the bottle. Take note, brands!
I applied using my beauty blender pro (damp) and stippled the product all over my face. Right away I noticed how great the coverage was – not overkill, but not too sheer – and how a little went a long way. Using a brush though later on I noticed the mileage wasn’t there the same way it was with the beauty blender, so just remember what a different one of those little guys makes when it comes to applying foundation! It also builds really well if you are looking for more coverage and plays well with other concealers and products underneath if you’re doing a bit of contouring or covering up spots.
The colour, Classic Ivory, was an excellent match for my skin and gave a really natural finish that wasn’t cakey or heavy. L’Oreal claims the foundation has micro-sponge technology that absorbs excess oil and shine to give the matte finish that lasts – don’t ask me specifically what the science behind that is, but take my word it stays matte all day.
The only downside I found was product rubbing off in the later hours of the day. I usually attribute this to how much I touch my face (rubbing my eyes, scratching…I’m really trying to stop this) because I experience it a lot with most foundations, but just as a friendly warning you might find the 24 hour coverage isn’t necessarily there.
All that said, I think I’d definitely buy again. I’ve been using it daily for a few weeks now and am overall happy with the results. You can find it at your local drugstore or well.ca for $19.99.
