It’s no secret by now that I almost exclusively use liquid eyeliner. I’m constantly on the hunt for the perfect formula for my oily eyelids – I was pretty convinced I found it in Urban Decay last year, but it turns out the product is becoming increasingly hard to find and my last bottle didn’t perform so well.
When MAKE UP FOR EVER sent one of their new liquid liner offerings, I was really excited. Could this be it? A new holy grail liner? I had to put it to the test.
Ink Liner is designed to offer flexibility in your liner application. Its calligraphy pen tip allows you to customize the stroke however you choose – it’s easy to do fine lines or thick, bold strokes across your lid depending on the look you’re going for. It claims to offer a super-matte and intense line that’s transfer-proof. This was the key word for me as my biggest issue with liquid liner is it stamping itself on my upper-lid by 3pm when the rest of my t-zone is having a meltdown.
I swapped out my current liner for this on a typical workday, which usually means the liner goes on at 7:30am-ish and needs to stay put until at least 6pm. I found application to be very easy – the tip offers a lot of control and it’s not too messy, which is always a good thing. It was easy to create my usual winged look in a short amount of time, and I was off for the day.
Sadly, by the time I got home the liner hadn’t stood the test of the office. The product kind of melted and slid off my face as the day went on and my face got progressively more oily.
This was a bit of a disappointment since MAKE UP FOR EVER is a brand that never lets me down, but I think it’s because of my combo skin and particularly oily eyelids. It’s definitely not the first higher-end liner I’ve tried that hasn’t worked out because of them.
That said, if you’re one who has normal or drier skin this may be worth a shot – for now, I’ll need to stick to my waterproof options. If you want to give it a whirl, find it at Sephora this month or MAKE UP FOR EVER Boutiques for $27 CAD. If you give it a try and like it, let me know!
