Over the coming weeks I’ll have some new exciting products on the blog from Mary Kay to share, and today I’m starting with their new eyeliner formula. It’s known by now I prefer liquid over pencil liners, however every now and then when I’m looking for a change I reach for a pencil. I find pencils make smokey eyes and night-out looks a little easier (you won’t find me smudging my liquid formulas) so I think it’s important to have a quality pencil on hand at all times.
The new formula comes in three popular shades: MK Steely, MK Black and MK Brown. Basic essentials we can all find a use for in our makeup bags. It claims to be waterproof, suitable for sensitive and contact-wearing eyes, long-wearing and effortless in application. Of course, I put it to the test.
I definitely found the pencils went on exceptionally smoothly – sometimes pencils go on a little spotty or feel dry, but that’s not the case here. I also found the colour went on just as expected, which is always a good sign of a great formula.
Beyond that though, I can’t say I loved much else about the product. Once again, my oily lids got in the way and I’m not crazy about the packaging as it feels a little bulky. For testing, I tried the brown and grey shades first then finished with black and opted to leave it on for the day instead of starting over – after just a few hours the product was transferring to my upper lid and sliding around.
If you don’t struggle with an oily t-zone/oily eyelids, I would give this a try if the opportunity comes along. It really felt like the quality was there in the new formula, I just don’t think it’s made for anyone who has to combat shine like I do. Find the product through your Mary Kay consultant for $16 each starting February 16!
