Right now, Toronto is anything but my idea of “paradise.” I do love this city so much, but I’m craving a getaway somewhere warm to escape this exceptional cold.
The nice thing about this time of year is pieces of spring start to trickle in…spring fashion takes over our favourite stores, baseball tickets go on sale, and beauty collections of bright colours and sunny products hit the shelves. Mary Kay is no exception, having launched their Paradise Calling Limited Edition collection last week. When I got the delivery of nail, lip and eye products in bright shades that popped and a lotion that smelled like the beach, I knew warmer days were just around the corner.
The Lacquered Lip Shines caught my attention first. A full-coverage, high-pigment gloss, it wasn’t quite like anything else I had in my lipstick drawer and I was super curious to see how they wore. They pack the punch of a bold lipstick, but the hydration of a balm/gloss making them a double-duty product.
Shades included in the LE line include Exotic Orchid (a bright pink), Tropical Mandarin (an orange/coral) and Sunbaked (a soft nude). You can see from the swatches how seriously bold these are – the colour payoff is huge.
I went ahead and tried each on and had mixed feelings. There’s no question they are very comfortable on the lips and you can see there’s no issue when it comes to colour, but of the three products Tropical Mandarin got on my teeth more than my lips it felt! At first I thought I was just sloppy in my application, but no matter how much rubbing of my teeth I did, more transferred by the time I’d snap a pic. You can also see where it almost instantly started to bleed on my bottom lip. Sorry for the kind of weird pic everyone!
With the other two shades, I didn’t experience this so maybe it was just a bad tube of the first. I did LOVE the colours of the other two, particularly Exotic Orchid.
As I said, I have mixed feelings on these. Pigment and comfort are no issue – but I don’t know if I’d dare to wear them all day with the risk of getting product all over my teeth. The colours are gorgeous though, and if you’re interested in checking them out find them online for $19.00 each.
