I think I’ve written a few times on this blog how much Maybelline has been KILLING IT as of late. The last 12 – 18 months of new releases, I would say, have been absolutely incredible. The quality of their makeup has soared and they are slowly taking over my vanity in terms of everyday makeup (the Fit Me foundation and Face Studio Master Conceal are straight fire). The newly released Face Studio Master Contour palette is no exception.
I am not one who goes crazy on the contouring daily because honestly guys, I do not have the time. I will always choose five more minutes of sleep over going above and beyond in the makeup department for the office. I have a lot of incredible contouring favourites, including Kat Von D’s Shade + Light palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour palette, but I don’t always need six shades of choice in front of me to accomplish a subtle sculpted look. Enter Maybelline’s answer to your basic contouring needs, the Face Studio Master Contour palette. When I saw it in stores, I knew I had to grab it.
THE FACE STUDIO MASTER CONTOUR PALETTE
Containing a single contouring shade, a blush and a highlighter, this is a true all-in-one product that will give you a very easy and straightforward but high-quality contoured look.
My absolute FAVOURITE thing about this palette is the contour shade for super fair-skinned girls like me. It’s a soft taupe shade that isn’t too stark against my skin, a refreshing change from a lot of palettes that lump light-to-medium tones together and lean a bit deeper. The result is an oh-so-natural shade that makes contouring far less obvious, the way it should be.
The blush is also a very soft pink that only needs the lightest of hands to apply (I use a duo-fibre brush in a figure 8 motion on the apples of my cheeks, sweeping upwards), and the highlighter gives a glow with golden undertones that catches the light in just the right places (I wear it just above my cheekbones, on my cupid’s bow and sometimes a light dusting on my nose for everyday wear). It won’t give you that really extreme see-it-from-another-galaxy highlight, but that’s preferable for some.
This palette is perfect if you’re really new to contouring or just want an afforable, basic, all-in-one deal. Find it at the drugstore for around $15 to $20 – I grabbed mine at Shoppers Drug Mart on sale for $14.99.
