Around mid-November, I coordinated an outdoor shoot with some of my favourite people: talented photographer Erin Barclay, hair genius Sam Wilson and up-and-coming model Candace Baumtrog. We knew we wanted to do an outdoor forest-y shoot to capture that transitional period between Fall and Winter, and wanted to play with styling and hair and different makeup looks.
We lucked out with an incredibly beautiful day! The sun was shining and it was just cool enough outside that it was comfortable and refreshing, and Taylor Creek Park in Toronto made for the perfect backdrop. I’m so thrilled with the photos and can’t wait to see the rest (we took a lot). I can see where there’s room to improve for me, another reason I’ve been shooting like crazy, and what I feel good about in my work.
We started with a softer, more natural and warm look. Kept it light and neutral on the eyes with just a touch of bronze liner (Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Bronze), a slight contour and layer of gloss (Benefit’s Hoola Ultra Plush Gloss to the rescue here!) to tie everything together.
Photos below – huge shout out to Erin for editing and sharing the photos!
For the second phase of the shoot, we knew we wanted to capture something darker and more dramatic – a lot more along the lines of typical fall beauty. I added darker shadows to her lids from Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Eye Contour palette (outdoors, no less), some black liner and a vampy liquid lipstick, Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain in a shade I’m starting to think has been discontinued.
I love, love, LOVE these photos and am so thrilled with the outcome!
Huge thanks to the team for coming together for such a fun and fab shoot. Stay tuned for more in the new year, friends!
