Just like Beyonce turns to her freakum dress when it’s “time to impress,” I have some beauty tricks I turn to when I’m needing a little confidence boost or pick-me-up. I’m sure I’ve written before about how powerful I think makeup can be under the right circumstances. I don’t consider myself to be someone who wears makeup because I need to, but rather someone who wears it because I want to. It’s helped me shape my “look” over the years and I really consider it to be a form of self-expression, and sometimes it’s just a really great tool to help me get on another level whether I’m feeling like crap or prepping for a night out.
I have a few go-to tricks in times of need I thought I’d share – I’d love to hear yours!
Red Lipstick (Duh.)
Okay, so this one was an easy guess since the blog is called Red Lips. Blue Eyes., but seriously guys. Red lipstick has transformative powers, and I believe every women deserves to own the right shade of red to make her feel sexy and confident on command. This is my go-to trick when I’m feeling groggy and tired and just need something to trick the world into thinking I’ve got it totally together. It’s also a must-do on a night out (unless I’m going one step further and rocking hot pink or purple lips)! Some of my go-to shades include Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw and MAC RiRi Woo (very close match to Ruby Woo).
Dramatic, on-point winged liner.
Ah yes, winged eyeliner. If it goes wrong, it can be the worst thing to happen to my beauty routine as it’s one of the last things I do – one mistake and I have to go into serious damage-control mode. BUT – when it goes right? Oh my, is it ever good. Dramatic (but not quite Amy Winehouse-esque) winged liner that comes to a clean, sharp point and is symmetrical is one of the single best things that sends my confidence-level through the roof. When I nail it, it’s a total pick-me-up. My must-have liner? Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner (review here).
So…when I’ve nailed my liner (and brows and lips), there’s only one thing left to do – top it all off with a long, voluminous set of falsies. They’re probably one of the easiest ways to add *serious* glamour to your look once you get the hang of applying them. Personally, I don’t think these are anything you have to break the bank over either – KISS and Ardell lashes are easy to find at places like Wal-Mart and will rarely run you more than $5 a set. You can also get multiple wears out of a set if you’re light on the glue (as you should be) and remember to remove it once you take your lashes off. And remember – as the saying goes when it comes to glue, it’s DUO or it’s dirt.
What tricks do you turn to for a night out or to lift your spirits?
