…with lipstick from the latest MAC Cosmetics LE line of products, Rocky Horror Picture Show.
It is my belief that one’s first viewing of RHPS is a rite of passage. You know the part of Rose Tint My World where Dr. Scott sings and right at the end of his verse he sticks his leg out and reveals he’s wearing fishnets and heels and is totally into it? That’s what it’s like to walk away from your first viewing of the film – it’s like discovering and awakening your inner Frank-N-Furter, and you’re simply never the same.
I remember the first time I saw it well. I was at a sleepover birthday party in Grade 7 (ish?) and someone decided it would be the perfect slumber party film. It started and before I knew it, I was overwhelmed and dazzled by the sweet transvestite who graced the screen, and while I didn’t get my head around the film’s plot until my third or fourth viewing, a deep love for the movie was born and I’ve been in love with it since (is it a coincidence my boyfriend’s a Brad? Maybe…maybe not). If you haven’t checked out a midnight screening with a decent shadowcast, you haven’t lived – Toronto folks, the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema has a showing once a month and the Hallowe’en screening a total blast.
You can imagine my excitement, then, when MAC announced the Rocky Horror line. Why hadn’t this been done before?! While the collection was loaded with lots of great products, you know I was only concerned about one thing – the lipsticks.
After shivering with antici…pation all day last Monday (September 29th, its originally scheduled online launch date) only to find out it would be delayed, I spent that entire 24 hours freaking out I’d miss the window to order online. When it finally went live on Tuesday, I thankfully had a moment to jump online and quickly added the two lipsticks I was set on ordering – Sin and Frank-N-Furter.
Frank-N-Furter is a deep raspberry wine red with a matte finish, which I l-o-v-e. It’s such a perfect red lip! I don’t know how else to describe it shade-wise…just perfection. For a matte lipstick it also goes on so incredibly smooth and is really bold.
Sin is an incredible fall lip shade. Like, SHEER PERFECTION. It’s a matte deep dark blue-red, which for me is perfect against my skin tone (blue based reds are best for me) and the finish is wonderful for fall and winter beauty.
Both lipsticks were well worth the $21 price tag because anything I can use to channel Magenta, Columbia, Janet (post-Rocky experience) or of course the legendary Dr. Frank-N-Furter is money well spent. My last trip to the MAC store on Friday to peruse the collection’s other offerings revealed lipsticks were still available (Sin, however, was sold out) so if you haven’t scooped one up, I say go for it.
And now, I’ll leave you with the album so you can give yourself over to absolute (musical) pleasure.
