We take a lot of cues from eastern countries for beauty trends here in the western hemisphere. Asian brands in particular have led the way for a lot of things that have picked up in North America, including BB creams, sheet masks, cushion compacts, and now sleeping packs. If you’ve started seeing these pop up everywhere, you’re probably asking yourself, “What is a sleeping pack, and should I be using one?”
ADDING A SLEEPING PACK TO YOUR ROUTINE
Sleeping packs (or overnight packs) are essentially a lightweight, quickly absorbing but powerful gel that is meant to be the very last step in your nighttime skin routine. Most promise to repair and restore skin to its full, glowing natural glory while you sleep.
They’ve taken space on shelves at many Asian beauty stores like Holika Holika and The Face Shop for a while now, but more are showing up at stores like Sephora from major brands. The latest to offer a sleeping pack? Estée Lauder with the launch of the Kendall Jenner-approved Estée Edit line.
The Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack ($58.00 CAD) promises to deliver “glow-boosting antioxidants while you sleep: pink peony soothes, and goji berry, blueberry, and cranberry combine with hyaluronic acid to infuse skin with visible energy. The quick-absorbing mask leaves skin radiant, smooth, and comfortable.”
First impressions: it smells heavenly. I would continue wearing this to bed for the sole reason of having such a fresh scent to fall asleep with! It’s also a product that’s mastered the delicate balance of incredible hydration without feeling like you’ve globbed too much on your face – it absorbs very quickly so you don’t get your pillow messed up.
After trying it, I woke up feeling really refreshed and my skin felt more awake than usual, if that makes sense. It plays well with my combo skin from what I can tell, so overall it’s a winner in my books.
To answer the question of whether or not you actually need to use a sleeping pack, I would say not really. It’s not essential to your routine, but it definitely has its perks. If you’re looking for an added boost, go for it! Find the Estée Edit line exclusively at Sephora.
