I have always been a creative person and am the daughter of an extremely talented artist, so while growing up I’ve always done some form of art (drawing, painting, singing, drama), I typically fell into the “average” category of anything I tried. Think of those people you see on singing shows who are great and can sing, they just don’t have anything special to take them to the top – that was me with just about everything! I never quite landed on something where I felt I could grow into an expert, until I found makeup and then discovered creative beauty.
I can’t even explain the joy I get out of doing creative makeup. Everyday beauty and even “night-out” glam is fun, and I love the feeling of wearing a full face of kick-ass makeup or helping someone else achieve that. But, when it comes to crazy, out-of-the-box, beauty editorial style shooting there’s something extremely fulfilling from a creative and artistic perspective and I actually feel it’s an area I can grow into and really develop. It’s definitely where I experience the most joy as a makeup artist and can’t wait to explore it further.

Today, I’m sharing some photos of my latest creative and studio work. Last month, I met a great photographer working on some test shoots for Morgan Model Management at Studio Cozy in Toronto. Every now and then you come across people in your career who just get it – Gary Johnson (@iam_peterparker_ on Instagram) is one of those people. We worked on the initial shoot together and decided we’d definitely start collaborating more often for creative work, and within a few days we’d set up another session at the studio and called on some model friends to join in the fun.
Check them out and let me know what you think – finding any inspiration in the beauty (or these gorgeous girls!)? Let me know! And if you know anyone looking to get some modeling practice in Toronto, send them my way!
