I’ve had a skin revelation. All this time (we’re talking years) I’ve considered myself a combination skin girl. In my mind, nothing could change that – I was convinced products were merely keeping oil at bay, prolonging the time between a fresh face of makeup and the slick, shiny mess I’d inevitably find staring back at me hours into my day.
I’ve been proven wrong. I have normal skin. You hear that? NORMAL. SKIN.
My beauty mentor and guru, Jacquie Hutchinson sat me down in our first lesson and basically told me I was full of lies and needed to get my skincare straight, once and for all. She gave me a tip that I’d seen and heard many times before, but previously ignored. The secret?
That’s it. Just good ol’ coconut oil, which was already sitting pretty in my pantry. Put it all over your visage before bed, and let it work its magic overnight. Carry on with your regular routine (and in my case, lose the all-mattifying-everything products that were stripping my skin of its natural oils) and let your skin balance itself out. I just get some on my fingers, put it on like I would any other moisturizer, push a bit into my cuticles to give them some love and call it a night.
It’s been a solid six weeks of this now and I’ve had several people compliment my skin and ask me what I was using. It’s turned my world upside down but my makeup is applying better, I can get away with light and medium coverage foundation, and experiencing sweet skincare serenity.
Coconut oil. Get into it.
