A quintessential millenial, I try to avoid using the phone as much as possible. I’d rather take care of my business online whether it’s shopping, making plans, or doing research, so naturally I prefer to book my appointments online too. While it sometimes seems many have yet to get with the times on this one (doctors? dentists?), it’s safe to say companies relating to personal grooming/spas, hospitality and entertainment are fully aware that online booking is the norm.
I was recently asked to send my boyfriend, Brad, out to a top barbershop in the city for a little Valentine’s Day season relaxation specifically to try Resurva, a Toronto-founded online booking system. After some thought I was genuinely intrigued – obviously online booking itself is not a new or especially sexy concept, but I quickly realized it’s an important aspect of dealing with a business for me and some interfaces are better than others. For example, nothing bothers me more than being asked to put in my credit card info just to hold an appointment slot or a site that doesn’t adapt to a mobile screen (things that have actually stopped me from booking with companies in the past).
What is important to me is a fast, easy process that’s as simple as choosing an appointment slot, providing basic information like my name and way to reach me, and putting it in my calendar. Resurva provided just that – it took Brad all of five minutes to pick a time and date, who he wanted to book with and he got a confirmation email right away with the details. Oh, and he booked it around 11pm the night before for a 1pm appointment.
As I mentioned though, my loyalty comes not only from convenience but a high-level of service and quality, and it’s safe to say Brad found that in Town Barber at Dundas and Ossington.
The barbershop opened just a few weeks ago led by Chris Hammell and Dan Brennendorfer, and Brad booked himself in with Dan for a cut & hot shave. I’ve been nagging him for months now to go to a proper barber for his haircuts instead of the walk-in chain places he tends to favour, so this was the perfect way to introduce him to what a real haircut should be. That, and he was able to indulge in a straight-razor shave complete with all of the prep and care that goes into it.
I tagged along for the purpose of taking photos and being able to properly document the experience, but I wished I could have just sent him on his own – it’s the perfect place for a guy to just kick back and relax in a no-fuss environment. The shop has a classic vintage look and feel that’s right on par with the service – friendly, honest and simple. Brad walked away very happy and impressed with the results.
Now comes the fun part – a chance for you to win a haircut and/or hot shave with one of Toronto’s top barbershops as well (highly recommend Town Barber) using Resurva! You can book at any of the following shops:
- Crows Nest Barbershop (Kensington Market)
- Town Barber (Dundas West & Ossington)
- Garrison’s Barbershop (Queen West)
The contest is open to Canadians (though the shops are in Toronto) just in time for Valentine’s Day – enter for yourself or someone special that could use a visit with one of the city’s best. Contest closes February 13, 2015. Enter via the Rafflecopter form below & good luck!
