Exciting news, friends – I’m taking my first ever vacation to a warm destination! I’ve mentioned it before on the blog, but in case you missed it, my parents moved to the Cayman Islands last month (my Dad got a job there) so I pretty much have a killer hot spot to visit on the regular, at least for the next few years. I’m playing puppy chauffeur this weekend and helping my Mom get her dogs down to the island – the last big step for their move!
This means you won’t see much activity on the blog for a bit as I’m treating it like a true vacation. Not that I’ve been too busy with a job, but things have been really crazy for me the last few months (or you know, year) and I want to treat this as a true escape from it all to catch up on reading, lay in the sun and genuinely just reset. It’s the perfect segue into starting a new job at the end of this month and taking on some new and exciting challenges this fall (more on that in another post), and I want to make the most of it!
So for my last blog post pre-vacay, I’m sharing my five vacation essentials I’ll be packing. I don’t plan on bringing much in terms of makeup as I don’t plan to wear much, but I’m loading up on the SPF and packing beach and heat-friendly products to get me through the week.
Mary Kay® Sun Care SPF 50 Sunscreen
If you’ve ever seen a photo of me, which are plastered all over this blog, you’ll know I’m a ghostly pale woman. For years I tried to fool myself into thinking I had much darker skin resulting in the dreaded “orange face” throughout high school, but in recent years I’ve accepted my sheet-like complexion and learned to embrace it. In turn, I’ve come to obsess about SPF more and more. This Mary Kay SPF 50 sunscreen ($23.00) is coming along for the ride to protect my skin from the harmful rays of the sun. I definitely want to get some colour, but I don’t want to lay in the sun unprotected and turn into a tomato!
Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen
Years ago when I read Julia Roberts and Jen Aniston credit their incredible looking skin to years of SPF on their face every day, I practically ran to the drugstore to get on that train. For the same reasons I’ll be slathering on the sunscreen on the rest of my body, I’ll continue to wear SPF on my face as I usually do with this Clear Face Lotion Sunscreen from Neutrogena (around $15 at the drugstore). It’s lightweight, non-greasy and designed to play nice with breakout-prone skin like mine.
I was recently given the chance to try out the Tangle Teezer (similar here for $25), a professional de-tangling brush that is made to make brushing your hair a breeze. I can’t rave enough about this product! Aside from the face it feels so nice on the scalp, it honestly will brush through the craziest hair with absolute ease. My hair is wavy and crazy once I’m out of the shower, and this takes care of it super fast, no problem. It will be coming with me everywhere there’s water (shower, pool, beach) to comb through the mess after a nice dip!
TRESemme Perfectly (Un)Done Waves Creation Sea Foam
I wrote about the entire Perfectly (Un)Done line at the start of the year and continue to use and obsess over it. It just responds so well to my natural hair and waves and makes them look soft and beachy all the time. Obviously I won’t need much help getting natural beach waves in the Caymans, but since I don’t plan to style my hair at all during the week, the Wave Creation Sea Foam ($9.99) is still a perfect one-and-done product to tame my hair each day.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
So yes, my makeup-free rule will be in effect for almost the entire week, but there will be the odd outing where I’ll have to pull myself together to sit in a restaurant or socialize with people. In those events, I’m planning on bringing minimal makeup but counting on a punchy lipstick to do most of the legwork in terms of making me up. I’m throwing my trusty KVD Liquid Lipsticks ($24.00) in my bag for this. Hands down my favourite liquid lipstick formula, these will last through the heat, meals and water and have the most fabulous matte finish.
